RAW started working with Sandford Orchards in January 2021 to support their ambitious post-pandemic growth plans. Sandford Orchards is one of the fastest growing challenger brands in the cider industry and shortly before the first lockdown it invested heavily to expand its bottling and canning capabilities and develop and implement a new branding strategy. This meant that Sandford Orchards was well placed to meet an increased demand for real cider driven by a strong consumer interest in authenticity and quality and they engaged RAW to support them in this journey.
Founded in 2002, independent, family-owned Sandford Orchards is based in Mid Devon in the oldest working cider mill in the UK. They press and ferment whole juice from the finest locally grown bittersweet apples and age it to perfection to create beautifully balanced and naturally refreshing cider. Sandford Orchard’s ethos is to produce the best tasting cider ‘done right’. They take a fresh, natural, low impact approach and use the best apples in the world and their investment has put them in a strong position to meet the needs of their fast growing fan base as well as those consumers wanting to trade up to something more authentic and better tasting.
Sandford Orchards’ range of ciders includes session ciders, a selection of flavoured ciders and a range of vintage ciders. In 2020, Sandford Orchards launched the Breakthrough Cider Maker Awards designed to recognise excellence and support outstanding newcomers in the cider industry.
RAW hit the ground running focussing initially on the investment and new vintage cider range and gaining nearly seventy pieces of coverage in the first three months of working with Sandford Orchards across key trade, regional and national press as well as on radio and in glossies including Olive Magazine.
“The team at RAW have been hugely important to our recent growth in visibility. Their understanding of the media environment means that stories and products that might have received very little attention are reaching the right people and making headlines for all the right reasons. I really love the balance of skills they bring, and a passion for the industry which makes them really easy to work with. It gives us a spring in our step to think if we do good things – our story will be heard.”
